Task: Peer Review

The image I have chosen from the departmental Flickr site is this from user "oliexst". It is in the form of an advert for the National Trust, a British institution which therefore links to my project idea. It portrays Britiain in its own way. The reflection of the word 'EXPLORE' shows the area to be calm and tranquil and creates a vibrant and positive image of Britain. It has inspired my work because I wanted to do advertising and postcards for my Combining Images initial and developmental shoot.

Task: Discuss the work of a historical (Pre1970’s) ‘black & white’ photographer.

Stewart Marsden

"Stewart Marsden's black-and-white photographs of London street life capture glimpses of human interaction in the often cold, impersonal city, moments of quiet reflection amid the hustle and bustle. "I like to spend my spare time exploring the streets of London, my Pentax K-5 always in my hand and a bag of fixed length prime lenses over my shoulder," says Stewart. "I watch the people, see new spaces, new shapes" - extract from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/culturepicturegalleries/9930721/Stewart-Marsdens-black-and-white-photographs-of-London-street-life.html?frame=2509692

The image shown is a market street in London and captures the atmosphere and daily life around the market. I like this photo because it captures society and links to the idea of my project well. Stewart Marsden London shoot epitomises the British way of life and the black and white makes the image very atmospheric. I will use and have used this image as inspiration for my upcoming final shoot for the black and white project.
