Task: Peer Review

The image I have chosen is this one by Szimonetta. I like this image because she has taken a photo of a photo to show what has been or should be in that location. I also like the way she has used a black and white image over a colour shot to show a contrast of colours. The black and white also represents and gives the idea that the image is old or in the past, which is being shown.

Task: In 200 words critically discuss and analyse a combining images technique

For my combining images project (final shoot) I decided to edit my models onto typical British backgrounds.
To do this, you must first choose the background that you wish to use and crop it to fit into the canvas size on Photoshop. In a separate document, open the image of your model and using the magnetic lasso tool, cut round your model. Once you've done this, copy and paste it into the first image and place in your desired position.

I think this was a good technique to use because it allows you to be very creative with your image. There is a lot of flexibility and, if used correctly, can create some great outcomes for the project. In my particular project, i also added some typically British iconic brands and organisations to the images to create and 'advertisement' look.

Task: Exhibition review

The Land of the Hobs - Snow and Ice Sculpture Festival, Brugge, Belgium
3rd December 2014

On December 3rd, I, along with fellow students, visited an ice sculpture festival in Belgium. The sculptures were based around the new film 'The Hobbit' as well as Harry Potter and were created by a number of skilled artists from the local area.

These sculptures were housed in a semi-permanent tent where the temperature was as low as -6 and were beautifully crafted to create some awe-inspiring sculptures. Although there was little link between my project and this exhibition, it has helped me to come up with the idea of documenting how different cultures and countries celebrate Christmas via the form of advertising.

Task: Find an inspiring magazine image / advert / article

This is a 2011 TV Advert by Visit Britain called 'You're Invited'. I like this advert because it includes lots of typical British icons such as Stonehenge and our beautiful countryside as well as some iconic London landmarks. It represents Britain as a very patriotic nation and encourages people to visit our nation. This advert has encouraged me and help me create some interesting ideas for my project.
